Build Your Own Workout Mix

I’d started this site using the beats per minute data I’d been cataloging as a DJ.

Basically, in a club, I’d use a song’s BPM to find out with which other songs it could be mixed. The goal of the site was to take these BPMs and use them to find out which songs would best match a person’s exercise routine.

I thought it might be fun to bring things full circle and make custom workout mixes for folks.

To that end, I’ve posted samples of around 40 of the most popular songs on Run Hundred below. And for $2.50 per track, I’ll make a continuous mix of your favorites. Ideally, it’ll be like a DJ set, designed around your workout, using the songs you’ve chosen.

Here are some of the questions you might have:

Isn’t it illegal to sell someone else’s music?

To keep things legal, I’ll buy each of the songs for you on Itunes. (Itunes has a gift option–where you can buy a set of songs for someone else to download. That’s where half of the $2.50 per track goes.)

So, this includes the songs and the mix?

Yes. You’ll get copies of each of the individual songs you’ve picked. Plus, you’ll get the continuous mix. And the artists, labels, and Itunes will get their usual cut.

Do you have to have Itunes?

Yes. That’s where you’ll pick up the songs I’ve purchased on your behalf.

Am I going to ask for your Itunes username and password?

No. I’ll be paying for your songs in my own Itunes account. Then, Itunes will email you a link where you can download the songs–for free–that I purchased. (I’ll email you a link to the continuous mix version separately.)

Are these going to be the original songs, by the original artists?

The songs are by the original artists. But, in most cases, I’ll be using club remixes–as they’re usually a little faster and easier to mix. (You can listen to samples of each track below, to see if you like the remix I picked out.)

Will the songs be heavily cut-up and abbreviated?

For $2.50 a track, I can’t afford to do a ton of scratching and elaborate cuts. What I will focus on is getting the tracks into a continuous mix–so the songs blend into one another seamlessly, with no spaces between.

How do you pick the songs you want to appear in the mix?

Each song below has an audio sample and an “Add To Cart” button. You can listen to as many as you want, and add the tracks you like. A cart will open in a new window, with all the tracks you’ve added. When you’re done, you just check out using Paypal.

What if you don’t have a Paypal account?

You can still use the buttons below. When you’re ready to check out, there will be an option where you can pay with a credit or debit card.

How long will it take to get your songs and the mix?

I should be able to get everything back to you within 48 hours.

Is there a maximum number of songs that will fit on a mix?

There’s no maximum. But, there is a minimum of 10 songs per mix.

Can you use songs that aren’t on this list?

I’m afraid I have to limit the picks to those songs featured below. Since I already own them and am used to mixing them in my DJ sets, it speeds everything along. And that keeps the price down.

Any other suggestions?

You’ll have a chance to peruse your cart before you check out. So, for most folks, the easiest way to build a mix is to scroll through the samples below, give them a listen, and add everything that sounds like it could be a contender.

Then, when you’re done, you might have 10-20 songs in your cart. At that point, you can remove a few–if you want–before you check out. Put simply, it’s usually easier to build a giant list–and then weed a few songs out–than to try to build the perfect set as you go.

That’s my suggestion, at least.
