Working Out To An Audiobook.

I’m sure there are multitasking folks out there who already do (or would consider) listening to a book on MP3 while working out.

It’s likely not for everyone. But it might make for a change of pace, literally. And particularly where the author reads his or her own book, there have been times when I’ve gotten more out of listening than than I probably would have from reading. (Hearing Frank McCourt’s Irish accent and personal emphases throughout Angela’s Ashes is the best example I can offer.)

Anyway, I mention all this because Emusic’s giving away single book downloads to folks who try their audiobook service. While their musical catalog caters to independent releases, Emusic’s literary selections run the full spectrum. Here are few samples (about half of which are read by the authors, if you’re interested):

Michael Pollan – The Omnivore’s Dilemma
David Cross – I Drink For A Reason
Cormac McCarthy – The Road
Stephen Colbert – I Am America (And So Can You!)
Anthony Bourdain – Kitchen Confidential
Chelsea Handler – Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea.
David Sedaris – When You Are Engulfed In Flames
Randy Pausch – The Last Lecture

Run Hundred is a log of popular workout music.

My name's Chris Lawhorn.

I write about music for Marie Claire & Real Age.

Each month, I end up listening to hundreds of new songs.

I created Run Hundred to keep track of the ones to which I thought folks could work out.

My hunches aren't always perfect. So, you can vote on all of them, and let me know where I've missed the mark.

If you have any other feedback, you can shoot me a note.

A BPM App for your Ipod/Iphone

Here's a new app that allows you to determine the BPMs of songs already on your Ipod or Iphone.

Moreover, once they're calculated, you can use the app to quickly sort your library--and find songs that match your current pace.

A Steal For Fans Of Techno Workout Music

There's a glut of electronic/dance albums targeting the workout market. A good portion of them consist of generic techno by studio musicians.

But I found a couple on Emusic that feature non-stop mixes and tracks by folks like Danny Tenaglia, Fatboy Slim, Todd Terry, and Ferry Corsten.

Better yet, you can get both albums on one of Emusic's free trials.
